Since yesterday the Northern Cape capital, Kimberley has been abuzz with revellers of the Maloof Money Cup Mega Hype carnival, which took to the city streets for a bustling street parade.
The parade kicked off from the Sol Plaatje municipality information centre with a carnival procession of dancers, a field band and hundreds of Maloof promoters led by a fire truck making their way through the city centre.
The festivities will finish at the Craven Street taxi rank with live music and entertainment today.
Bikers from CC Riders also joined the parade.
The parade then went through several Kimberley surbubs including Greenpoint, Floors, Colville, Homestead, Homevale, Roodepan, Lerato Park and Vergenoeg before reaching Hulana park in Galeshewe.
According to Sharron Lewis, CEO of the Northern Cape Tourism Authority, this street parade is a prelude to the world’s greatest skateboarding event to the Northern Cape.
“We would like to welcome competitors who have travelled from all over the world to our province to compete in this event. We would also like to engage with our local communities and invite them to share the excitement of this great event with us,” she said.
