LOWER ORANGE RIVER PROJECT

LOWER ORANGE RIVER PROJECT

LOWER ORANGE RIVER PROJECT

The Lower Orange River project is located along the Lower Orange River in the Namakwa District. The aim is to assist agricultural producers and food processors in the Lower Orange River area to produce and supply high value crops such as dried fruits (raisins and dates) and vegetables to the Namakwa SEZ. The project will promote food security and enable the creation of sustainable jobs.

Great investment opportunities are available to producers and food processing companies as the Namakwa SEZ will house an agro-processing facility where raw produce will be processed, graded, packed and stored in preparation for both international and local markets. Investors will benefit from various tax incentives offered by the Namakwa SEZ.

The location of the Namakwa SEZ will enable investors to transport products to the various international markets such as Europe and the SADC region. This is possible as the SEZ is located in close proximity to the Upington International Airport, the South African and Namibia border, the proposed Port of Boegoebaai and the existing Ports of Saldanha and Cape Town.

The local South African market can be easily serviced through access to various national roads such as the N7 to the Western Cape and the N14 to Gauteng.

GREEN HYDROGEN AND AMMONIA INVESTMENT

The demand for Green Hydrogen is driven by the transitioning to cleaner energy sources worldwide. Industries are expected to convert their power source to Green Hydrogen by 2025 - 2030 in order to reduce their carbon footprint, and ultimately, to secure their export markets.

Green hydrogen is and will be utilised in the industrial sector (manufacturing), chemical sector and the transportation sector (heavy hauling, trucks, trains and busses) etc.

The Northern Cape Province is endowed with massive land, has the best radiation, good wind, and water for desalination along 330 km on the coastline. There is space to generate green energy for 16 to 24 hours per day and, can have concentrated facilities to electrify electrolyses.

A renewable energy investment opportunity exist in the form of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia production and aggregation at the newly planned Port of Boegoebaai, making it accessible to the international export market and the SADC region.

For South Africa and the Northern Cape Province, this energy transition into the green economy will ascertain environmental sustainability, employment creation, skills development, socio-economic development and access to a more reliable energy source.
